Holiday Shopping Spree

St. Thomas MoreSchool

Technology Class

As Christmas approaches, now is the time to start your preparation for the holiday shopping.  You have four relatives that you have to buy for.  Your Grandmother lives in Albuquerque, and loves floral patterned items and baking items.  Your uncle lives in Lompoc and loves fishing.  A cousin who lives in IronMountain loves tools; while your sister is in college at Harvard and needs something useful for school that doesn’t take up too much room.

You have a budget of $250 including shipping, packing (boxes, tape, bubble wrap), tax, as well the purchased items.  You must spend all the money within $10 of the $250.  Within your budget you must do the following:

1) First find the ZIP code for each address by using mapquest.com.

2) Select real items using online shopping tools like Target.com, Lands End, etc. that are consistent with the preferences of each relative.  You must spend more money for a higher ranked relative than a lower one. Print off B/W copies of the item showing the price and weight.

3) Purchase wrapping paper, tape and bows for your packages.

4) Purchase shipping boxes, bubble wrap, and shipping tape to enclose your packages search uhaul.com.

5) Estimate the shipping cost for each of your packages with the starting address of your home. You may use the postal service calculator for large packages at the following URL: http://ircalc.usps.gov/

6)       Enter all your results in Excel for each relative. There is an example for one relative below.  Your results will be tabulated in excel from a spreadsheet of your design.  You must use formulas for your calculations.

7) Total the cost for all relatives within the spreadsheet.

8) Show the percentage cost for each relative.  I.e.: Grandma 25%, Uncle Jake $18%, etc.

9) Attach all documents and staple together. Make sure your name and class are on the top of your spreadsheet.

10) 8 pts each for items 1,2,3,4,5,7, and 8. 44 pts for item 6 for a total of 100 pts. 10 Extra credit will be given for the clear organization of the spreadsheet.
